TextPower SmartAlerts™ Leverage Text Messaging to Communicate With Customers, Resulting in Dramatic Savings
SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CA and MONROE, NC–(Marketwired – Apr 22, 2014) – TextPower, a leader in innovative text messaging software solutions, today announced that the City of Monroe, North Carolina, has implemented an automated outage management system using TextPower SmartAlerts™ for service outage notifications.
In the state of North Carolina, 88 cities including Monroe operate their own electric power systems. Located near Charlotte, Monroe is home to more than 10,500 residential, commercial and industrial customers. The TextPower SmartAlert system is currently being used to manage incoming reports of outages. Beginning in March, customers will be able to opt in to the service to receive alerts on their mobile phone when power is restored.
“The automated system is a dramatic improvement and is already delivering savings in terms of both time and money,” said David E. Lucore, Electric Operations Manager for the city.
The city’s electric customers are now provided with a dial-in phone number that automatically logs power outages 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, enabling the utility to immediately manage and quickly remediate any outage.
“TextPower is committed to helping utilities reduce costs, improve customer service and maximize customer satisfaction by providing reliable, innovative communications technology,” said Mark Nielsen, Executive Chairman and co-founder of TextPower. “TextPower is rapidly becoming the de facto SMS technology standard for utilities and regional co-ops to help them communicate directly and effectively with their members during outages.”
Based on the initial success of the program, the city of Monroe plans to expand the automated alerts to other city services and utilities in the near future.
TextPower enables utilities of all sizes to personally contact customers during peak usage periods, to alert them of low balances and enable payment to avoid disconnects, as well as notify them during severe weather and other disaster emergencies. TextPower SmartAlerts can also be deployed for planned notifications such as load shedding, planned interruptions and pole inspections/right of way contractor notices.
TextPower is the only platform that is fully integrated with most of the major service providers to the industry (Milsoft, Daffron, DataVoice, CRC and others) allowing messages to be sent automatically or manually using web-based applications.
